Man Utd flop Jadon Sancho is being considered for a return to the Bundesliga if his current club does not activate his contract extension clause, according to Sportsboom.

Sancho signed a five-year contract with the option for a sixth season when he joined in 2021 for an €85 million transfer fee. The club would take a massive loss if he leaves on a free, but they may not want to spend another season paying him nearly €230,000 per week.

The 25-year-old has been loaned out three different times in his five seasons at Old Trafford. He returned to Borussia Dortmund — the club Man Utd signed him from — in 2023/24, went to Chelsea last season, and has spent this campaign with Aston Villa.

Dortmund are interested in bringing him back to the club, while Bayer Leverkusen are also said to be monitoring the player. Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle are also said to be considering the player, as are his loan club, Aston Villa.

Sancho has made 83 appearances for Man Utd in all competitions since his arrival, scoring 12 goals with six assists. He has not scored or assisted for the Red Devils since 2022/23.

Considering the €85m fee Man Utd paid for him, Sancho has cost more than €1m per appearance for the club.

Aston Villa consider permanent Sancho contract amid Bundesliga interest

Sancho has only assisted once for Aston Villa in 15 Premier League matches, but manager Unai Emery called him a “fantastic player” when asked if he had thought about signing Sancho on a free.

Emery added that they would want Sancho as long as he is playing his best football. Being freed from the expectation that came with his huge transfer fee may help the Englishman return to his best.

He peaked with 20 goals and 19 assists with Dortmund in 2019/20, at just 19 years old. He posted double digits in both goals and assists in each of his last three years with Dortmund before his Man Utd transfer.

In his half-season on loan at Dortmund in 2023/24, he scored two goals and provided two assists in 14 Bundesliga appearances. He became the top-scoring Englishman in Bundesliga history during the loan, a record that Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane has since broken.
