One of Liverpool’s forgotten summer arrivals is reportedly ‘regretting’ his move to Anfield and is considering an exit after growing frustrated at his role under Arne Slot this season.

Liverpool spent nearly €500 million on players last summer after winning the Premier League title but Slot’s side are in danger of missing out on Champions League qualification this season, with the Reds currently in sixth place.

The vast outlay was largely possible due to the modest spending in previous windows, having only signed two players during the 2024/25 season, one of whom didn’t join until last summer in Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Mamardashvili signed for Liverpool for €30m after an impressive Euro 2024 campaign for Georgia but the goalkeeper was loaned back to Valencia for the season, with Alisson still standing strong as the first choice shot-stopper on Merseyside.

Liverpool had anticipated that Alisson would leave the club and eventually allow Mamardashvili to establish himself as the club’s number one, however the Brazilian is still proving to be on top of his game.

Consequently, TEAMtalk report that Mamardashvili is ‘seriously considering’ a loan exit next season in order to secure more playing time, with Liverpool said to be ‘aware’ of the 25-year-old’s concerns and open to the move.

Alisson future set to determine Mamardashvili’s Liverpool fate

Mamardashvili made five appearances in the Premier League early in the season after an injury to Alisson but the Georgian failed to convince Slot of his credentials, with just one clean sheet during that time.

Alisson, meanwhile, has kept eight clean sheets in his 22 league appearances and Liverpool are expecting to keep hold of the Brazilian until his contract expires next summer.

The Reds are understood to be ‘committed’ to Mamardashvili’s long-term future but they could allow the backup keeper to go out on loan if Alisson does remain at the club.

Equally, having previously fielded interest from Saudi Pro League sides in Alisson, Liverpool could look to sell the 33-year-old if the right bid comes in, especially if they miss out on the Champions League and look to trim their wage bill.
