Crystal Palace have reportedly reached a “gentlemen’s agreement” to sell Adam Wharton for a fee just shy of €75 million if they are unable to finalise a new contract with the midfielder.
Wharton, 22, has been heavily linked with a Selhurst Park departure in recent months and he is widely expected to follow in the footsteps of Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi by leaving the club this summer.

The England international, who will be hoping to be selected by Thomas Tuchel for the upcoming World Cup, is wanted by a number of top clubs across Europe, although Liverpool and Manchester United are currently believed to be the frontrunners for his signature.
Both teams are eager to bolster their midfield options ahead of the 2026-27 campaign and they have earmarked Wharton as a key target amid his immense form for Crystal Palace.
The Englishman’s current deal with the Eagles is due to expire in 2029 and Oliver Glasner’s side are keen to agree fresh terms with the former Blackburn Rovers star. However, if a new deal isn’t finalised, Wharton will be allowed to leave for a fee of around €75m.
That is according to TEAMtalk, who report that a “gentlemen’s agreement” has been reached for Wharton to depart Crystal Palace to join a Champions League club this summer if their asking price is met.

Wharton appears to have edged closer to a Crystal Palace exit, although his next club has not yet been determined.
Liverpool are reportedly ready to pay roughly €75m to secure his signature this summer, amid rumours that Alexis Mac Allister could leave the club, while Man Utd view him as a strong contender to replace the departing Casemiro.
Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson is also wanted by the Red Devils, but they are set to face significant competition from Manchester City in the race to sign him.
Chelsea have also been linked with a move for Wharton, although the Blues appear to be behind Liverpool and Man Utd as things stand, with the west London giants eager to finalise a deal for a new central defender too.
