Chelsea receive Nicolas Jackson transfer bombshell
Nicolas Jackson is expected to return to Chelsea this summer, with Bayern Munich extremely unlikely to sign him on a permanent deal when his loan spell at the club ends.
The Senegal international joined Vincent Kompany’s side on a season-long loan deal for €16.5 million and the agreement included an obligation to buy for €65m if Jackson made 40 appearances across the Bundesliga and Champions League.
He would also be required to play at least 45 minutes in all 40 games for the clause to be triggered, but Jackson has only achieved this feat on seven occasions so far this term after being unable to work his way into the preferred starting XI at the Allianz Arena.
Widespread rumours have hinted that Bayern will opt against signing Jackson permanently this summer and The Times have now confirmed that he is expected to return to Chelsea when his loan deal ends in July.
The 24-year-old was cast aside by Enzo Maresca following the Blues’ triumphant Club World Cup campaign and opted to join Bayern after significant interest from multiple teams in the Premier League and Serie A.
Jackson is once again expected to be the subject of transfer speculation this summer, although The Times claim that he could be reintegrated at Chelsea following the departure of Maresca on New Year’s Day.
New boss Liam Rosenior has favoured Joao Pedro in a centre forward role since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, but Jackson is reportedly keeping his options open and could feasibly remain at Chelsea next season.
Nicolas Jackson to return to Chelsea
Although Jackson could be sold on a permanent deal by the Chelsea hierarchy this summer, an extended stay in west London hasn’t been ruled out, despite the imminent arrivals of Emmanuel Emegha and Dastan Saptaev.
However, Liam Delap has struggled since joining the club from Ipswich Town last year and Jackson certainly fared far better in a Chelsea shirt than the England striker.
As a result, the Senegal star could be handed a prominent first-team role by Rosenior next term, with Bayern set to target an alternative striker amid their pursuit of a suitable back-up to Harry Kane.
