Chelsea plot opening offer for Bruno Guimaraes
Chelsea have reportedly identified Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes as a key transfer target for the upcoming summer window.
Liam Rosenior’s side are expected to sign a new central midfielder this summer, amid the injury woes of Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo, and Guimaraes has emerged as the latest possible option for the Blues.
The Brazil international has established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League since his arrival at Newcastle in January 2022 and he has been in immense form this season, registering 14 goal contributions in just 23 English top flight games.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is a known admirer of the 28-year-old, although Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson appears to have been identified as their top target for 2026, which could open the door for Chelsea to land Guimaraes.
The Blues have prioritised signing players under the age of 23 since the arrival of Clearlake Capital as their new owners, but they are now eager to bring Guimaraes to Stamford Bridge this summer.
That is according to Spanish publication Fichajes, who claim that Chelsea are willing to submit an opening offer worth €75 million for the Newcastle captain, who has less than two-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract at St James’ Park.
It’s reported that Chelsea are keen to add Guimaraes to a stacked midfield roster that already includes the likes of Andrey Santos, Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, and the Blues hierarchy are “working around the clock” to finalise a bid that will suit all parties, as per Fichajes.
Analysis: Will Bruno Guimaraes join Chelsea?
Despite Chelsea’s interest in Guimaraes, a deal remains incredibly unlikely.
Newcastle will unsurprisingly look to block a potential deal unless they receive an extortionate fee, while Chelsea’s transfer policy suggests they would prefer to sign a younger target such as Kees Smit or Adam Wharton.
Furthermore, the club could also opt to sign Strasbourg star Valentin Barco, who worked with Rosenior in France and has established himself as a top central midfielder over the past few months.
As a result, Guimaraes isn’t expected to be a Chelsea player next season, despite the Blues’ reported interest in his signature.
