Chelsea and Manchester United have both denied holding talks with legendary Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

The German left the Reds as the club's most successful modern-day manager in 2024. Having spent almost nine years at the helm of Liverpool, Klopp insisted that he needed a break from football and also promised that he would never take charge of another team in England.

Klopp's sabbatical ultimately did not last long. Less than a year after leaving Anfield, the 58-year-old joined Red Bull as Head of Global Soccer, which is essentially an advisory role that involves him in the decision-making processes at the energy drink company's many clubs.

Whenever he has spoken in public, Klopp has waxed lyrical about his new job for allowing him to broaden his horizons. Having spent 20 years as a coach, he had always wanted to try something different in football.

However, as one of the most decorated managers of the modern era, Klopp has inevitably been linked with a return to the dugout. Senior figures at Real Madrid are interested in making him their next manager, while the former Mainz and Borussia Dortmund boss is always associated with the Germany job.

Chelsea, Man Utd respond to Klopp rumours

In recent days, Klopp's agent, Marc Kosicke, has spoken about his client. While reiterating that the 58-year-old is happy at Red Bull, the representative inadvertently raised eyebrows when he claimed that he had turned down approaches from various suitors.

Specifically, Kosicke asserted that Chelsea and Man Utd approached Klopp after his Liverpool exit to have it confirmed to them that he really intends not to return to English football. He also stated that the German had the chance to succeed Gareth Southgate as England boss.

However, according to Sky Sports, club sources at both Chelsea and Man Utd deny having made any contact with Klopp's agent after he departed from Liverpool.

Both clubs have changed managers since 2024, so it does not seem outlandish to suggest that they would have had some interest in appointing the former Reds boss. After all, both clubs previously attempted to hire Klopp before he took the Anfield job.

If Klopp is to return to management, though, it surely will not be with a club in England. It will most likely be with Real Madrid, a job that intrigues him, or Germany. In fact, there is a release clause in his Red Bull contract exclusively for the German national team.
