Bukayo Saka signs new long-term Arsenal contract
Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has put pen to paper on a new long-term contract.
The homegrown superstar's previous deal was due to expire in 2027, but after lengthy talks with the Gunners, which dragged on for over a year, Saka has committed to fresh terms until 2031, according to the BBC.
As part of his new contract, Saka has overtaken Kai Havertz as Arsenal's best-paid player, receiving a salary in excess of £300,000 (€343,000) per week. By contrast, the German is currently believed to be on £280,000 a week.
The deal represents a weekly pay increase of more than £100,000 for Saka, who has become one of the most beloved figures at Arsenal since his debut in January 2019.
At age 24, the England international already has 296 appearances for the North London giants under his belt, scoring 77 goals and providing 78 assists.
Is Saka Arsenal's best-paid player ever?
It was previously posited that Saka would become the best-paid player in the history of Arsenal, but given the confidential nature of football contracts, it is difficult to ascertain whether this is truly the case.
In the past, it was rumoured that Mesut Ozil was the best-paid player ever at Arsenal with a reported salary of up to £350,000 a week. However, whether he was actually that well-paid has been the subject of debate for almost a decade.
Whatever the case, Saka has become the latest in a long list of Arsenal superstars who have committed their peak years to the club, following on from Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba. It is believed that Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice will be next in line.
Youngsters Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman have also signed new contracts with the Gunners, while Leandro Trossard and David Raya have been handed pay increases in recent months.
FootballTransfers understands that the idea of handing Kai Havertz an extension has also been floated.
