Man Utd ready to beat Chelsea to wonderkid striker
Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Stade Rennais striker Mohamed Kader Meite if one of their current forwards leaves before the end of the January transfer window.
The Frenchman has been linked with a move to Old Trafford on a number of occasions over the past few months and Michael Carrick’s side are continuing to monitor his development ahead of a major transfer battle in 2026.
Kader Meite has scored three goals and provided two assists in 17 Ligue 1 matches so far this season, and the 18-year-old is the subject of significant transfer interest from Al-Hilal.
The Saudi Pro League side are ready to launch a €40 million bid for the teenager and they are pushing hard to finalise a deal for his signature before the winter transfer window slams shut.
However, Foot Mercato claim that Man Utd are also firmly in the race to sign him and are expected to pursue a deal if one of their attackers departs the club.
Joshua Zirkzee has been heavily linked with an Old Trafford exit in recent months and although he looks set to stay at the club following AS Roma’s decision to sign Donyell Malen and Robinio Vaz, a departure before Deadline Day can’t be fully ruled out.
As a result, Man Utd are keeping close tabs on Kader Meite, who is currently regarded as one of the top young prospects in Ligue 1.
Mohamed Kader Meite battle
In addition to Al-Hilal and Man Utd, Kader Meite is also on the radar of several Premier League clubs amid his impressive recent ascent to stardom at Rennes.
In fact, according to CaughtOffside, Aston Villa, Brentford, Brighton, Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham have all sent scouts to watch the teenager in action in recent weeks as interest in his signature continues to grow.
However, Al-Hilal and Man Utd appear to be the frontrunners for Kader Meite’s signature as things stands, with both teams interested in finalising a deal before the end of the winter window.
