Chelsea MUST sign 'perfect' Victor Osimhen
Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel has once again called for the signing of Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen.
The Nigeria international, currently preparing for a semi-final clash with Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations, has been linked with Chelsea for years. In the summer of 2024, the Blues actively explored a move but ultimately baulked at his wage demands.
Osimhen ultimately joined Galatasaray on loan, which was made permanent last summer. The Turkish giants broke the bank - almost literally - and shattered their club record to sign the 27-year-old.
Galatasaray sold their old training base to fund the €75 million acquisition of Osimhen and his annual €15m wage. The striker has netted 12 goals in 16 appearances so far this season for the Turkish giants, and he has also scored four goals in five games at AFCON.
While Osimhen has thrived in Turkey, Chelsea have struggled to find a reliable No.9. Nicolas Jackson was offloaded in the summer, and neither Liam Delap nor Joao Pedro - despite a promising start - has managed to set the world alight at Stamford Bridge.
Mikel: Chelsea need Osimhen
Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel, who has repeatedly lobbied for his old club to sign Osimhen, has now once again urged the Blues to make a move for the prolific striker.
Mikel described Osimhen as the "perfect option" for Chelsea in an interview with Sky Sports and added: "He can stretch the play, he can run behind, he can come short, he can score goals, he can do everything.
"You need that experienced striker who's been there, done it, knows how to win big games, knows how to score in big games, knows how to be in the right place at the right time."
Obi also believes that signing an upgrade on goalkeeper Robert Sanchez is a "must." He said: "The goalkeeper issue is a must. I just think if you want to win trophies, you need a top, top goalkeeper."
