10 Premier League players who could move in January
The January transfer window is nearly here and Premier League clubs are once again expected to dominate the market.
The biggest teams in the English top flight are likely to flex their financial muscle yet again next month, although they may be required to sanction several notable sales in order to fund their business.
Below, FootballTransfers runs through 10 Premier League players who could be on the move in January.
Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
The Mohamed Salah transfer saga is expected to dominate the January window after the Egypt star’s public bust-up with Arne Slot and the Liverpool hierarchy.
After being benched for three consecutive Premier League matches, Salah claimed he had been “thrown under the bus” by the club in early December and although Slot has claimed the club have moved on from the issue, rumours of an exit continue to rumble on.
With Liverpool actively chasing a new forward, it could spell the end of Salah’s hugely successful career at Anfield.
Kobbie Mainoo (Man Utd)
Kobbie Mainoo has drastically fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim this season and despite positive comments from the Manchester United boss, it appears as though the England star simply isn’t rated particularly highly by his manager.
Mainoo was eager to join Napoli on loan over the summer and while that request was blocked, a January exit could be on the cards amid his lack of game time this season.
The 20-year-old wants to leave Old Trafford to improve his chances of being selected for the 2026 World Cup and although Man Utd are keen to retain him, a loan move could take place.
Axel Disasi (Chelsea)
Axel Disasi was banished from the Chelsea first-team following a poor performance against Ipswich Town last December and he spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.
Several proposed transfers failed to materialise over the summer and Disasi is set to be sold in January amid interest from the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle and West Ham.
However, reports suggest that it is Lyon who are currently leading the race for his signature, with an exit almost certain.
Brennan Johnson (Tottenham)
Brennan Johnson was Tottenham’s top goalscorer last season, with 18 strikes across all competitions, however he has firmly fallen down the pecking order under Thomas Frank.
The Wales international has only started six English top flight matches so far this term and multiple reports have confirmed that Spurs are willing to listen to offers in January.
Crystal Palace have been tipped as strong suitors for the flying winger, although they are likely to face significant Premier League competition for his signature.
Joshua Zirkzee (Man Utd)
Like Mainoo, Joshua Zirkzee has also struggled for consistent game time at Man Utd so far this campaign, with summer signings Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko all favoured ahead of the Dutchman.
As a result, he has unsurprisingly been linked with a January exit, with several Serie A clubs keen to bring him back to Italy following his successful stint at Bologna.
It’s understood that Zirkzee has already accepted a proposal from AS Roma, but Man Utd are yet to finalise terms over a deal, meaning he could be forced to stay at Old Trafford unless things change.
Raheem Sterling (Chelsea)
Raheem Sterling was immediately placed in Chelsea’s ‘Bomb Squad’ following the appointment of Enzo Maresca last summer and he eventually joined Arsenal on a season-long loan deal in August 2024.
After failing to make an impact with the Gunners, Sterling returned to Chelsea this summer and he rejected numerous opportunities to leave the club due to his desire to remain in London.
The ex-England international still has 18 months remaining on his contract at Chelsea, but his last appearance for the club came back in May 2024 and he has been tipped to leave in January after spending the entire season so far training away from the Blues first-team.
Nathan Ake (Man City)
Nathan Ake is into the final 18 months of his contract at Man City and his time at the Etihad Stadium is widely expected to end next year.
The Netherlands defender has only two games across the Premier League and Champions League so far this campaign and he has already been an unused substitute in a total of 12 matches in 2025-26.
Atletico Madrid, Crystal Palace, Inter Milan and Juventus have all been linked with a January move for the ex-Bournemouth star, with a Man City departure regarded as a real possibility.
Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace)
Marc Guehi was on the verge of joining Liverpool on Transfer Deadline Day, but the deal collapsed at the last minute and he was forced to stay at Crystal Palace.
The move was so close that he even recorded a goodbye video to Eagles fans before being informed that the transfer hadn’t been finalised.
Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Guehi is likely to stay at Selhurst Park for the remainder of the season before departing as a free agent in July, but a January transfer could happen if Liverpool decide to submit a suitable offer.
Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth)
Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo is the Premier League’s most-wanted player ahead of the January window following a superb start to the new season.
The Ghana international has a €74 million release clause that is valid for the first two weeks of the winter transfer window and he is being chased by the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd and Tottenham.
It remains to be seen who he will choose to join, but he is widely expected to leave Bournemouth next month.
Tyrique George
The final player on this list is Tyrique George. The Chelsea academy graduate was close to completing a move to Fulham this summer, but the move collapsed when Marco Silva’s side opted to finalise a club record deal for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Kevin instead.
The England U21 international featured fairly regularly for Chelsea during the opening few weeks of the season, but he has only made one Premier League appearance since September and he is now ready to leave the Blues in January.
Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham, Southampton and Strasbourg have all been linked with a mid-season move for the forward and it’s believed that Chelsea will allow him to depart on a permanent deal.
