Guehi transfer meeting confirmed as Liverpool target Crystal Palace defender
Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is set for major transfer talks on 1 January amid ongoing interest from Liverpool.
The Reds missed out on the England defender on Deadline Day in the summer, and with Arne Slot’s side struggling at the back due to a combination of injury and loss of form, they remain attentive to possibilities in the transfer market.
Guehi is certainly a player that they are still tracking, but the Anfield giants have been forced onto the back foot regarding the centre-back, who will open transfer talks as soon as he is legally able to.
Out of contract at the end of June, Guehi can begin formal negotiations with suitors from the first day of 2026, and according to Sky Sport Germany, he is prepared to do exactly that.
With Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich also tracking him, Guehi, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €45.2 million, is preparing to speak to Vincent Kompany’s Bundesliga leaders.
Marc Guehi to Liverpool: Deal a distant prospect
This puts Liverpool in a difficult situation. The Reds need Crystal Palace’s permission to speak to the defender, and even if they were to agree on personal terms, they would then need to agree a transfer fee with the Selhurst Park club, who are likely to be resistant to making a sale in January unless the price is enormous.
Palace boss Oliver Glasner has already made it clear that he is unhappy with the business the club did in the summer, which he believes left them insufficiently prepared for the demands of European football. Despite his grumbles, the South London side are performing admirably as they have climbed to fourth in the Premier League table.
Losing Guehi at this juncture of the season, meanwhile, would be a major blow to Palace’s ambitions. Consequently, Palace are likely to be happier to reject any offers from Liverpool and take their chances with losing the defender for free.
Liverpool may have been minutes away from signing Guehi last summer, but the prospect of signing the defender now looks a distant one, with Bayern Munich’s ruthless move.
