Liverpool respond to Isak injury with swoop for prolific Premier League ace
Liverpool are showing an interest in Brentford striker Igor Thiago following Alexander Isak's long-term injury, according to a report.
The Sweden international suffered a blow to his ankle while scoring against Tottenham at the weekend. On Monday evening, Liverpool confirmed that their record signing had successfully undergone surgery after suffering damage to his ankle and fibula.
Arne Slot has confirmed that Isak will be out for "a couple of months," but he is hopeful that the Sweden international will be back before the end of the season.
As a result, reports have proliferated claiming that Liverpool could once again be set for a busy transfer window, despite a record-breaking spend in the summer.
The Reds enquired about Bournemouth superstar Antoine Semenyo in November. However, Man City are understood to be the winger's preferred destination as things stand.
Liverpool also target Thiago
Additionally, CaughtOffside claims that Liverpool are showing an interest in Brentford striker Igor Thiago. The 24-year-old has scored an impressive 11 goals in 17 Premier League appearances this season.
Despite his good output this season, Thiago is not yet seen as an elite Premier League striker because five of his goals have been from the penalty spot. He is also currently on a four-game run without a goal.
Nevertheless, it is claimed that Liverpool see him as a "stylistic fit." However, Brentford don't want to lose their star forward in the January window and will dig their heels in.
The Bees spent €33 million to sign him from Club Brugge in 2024, but this is his first real season of Premier League football because he was injured for most of 2024/25. Liverpool would likely have to pay a significant premium if they were to move for him mid-season.
