Antoine Semenyo has picked his next club - David Ornstein
Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo has chosen Manchester City as his preferred January destination, according to David Ornstein.
A turbulent 24 hours have culminated in the 25-year-old making his final choice ahead of the upcoming window. Semenyo wanted to choose his next club during his day off on Monday, but his decision-making process was interrupted by Chelsea.
The Blues, after previously insisting that they would not enter the race for the Bournemouth star, changed their tune and made an enquiry, which piqued the interest of the West London-born attacker.
The news of Chelsea's approach emerged on Tuesday afternoon, but by the evening, David Ornstein of The Athletic had revealed that the Stamford Bridge club had decided against making a concrete move, leaving Man Utd and Man City as Semenyo's main options.
Now, Ornstein says that the Ghana international is leaning towards joining the Cityzens over the Red Devils. Nothing is set in stone as long as the window is not open, but his clear preference as things stand is a move to the Etihad.
Semenyo to snub Man Utd
This means that Semenyo is set to snub interest from Man Utd for the second time this year. In the summer, the Old Trafford club showed a strong interest in the 25-year-old, only to end up disappointed.
They are now once more set for disappointment, with Ornstein revealing that it was always going to be difficult for Man Utd to pull off this deal in the January window.
The journalist has also dismissed suggestions that Man Utd intended to convert Semenyo into a left wing-back in Ruben Amorim's system. Semenyo's decision is more down to his desire to win trophies.
He feels that by joining Man City, he will have a better chance of securing silverware than if he were to link up with Amorim's inconsistent Red Devils. Semenyo has a €74 million release clause that needs to be triggered by 10 January.
