HERE WE GO!: Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea BlueCo owners transfer for World Cup wonderkid
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea’s BlueCo owners have agreed to sign another wonderkid, beating a host of rivals in the process.
BlueCo are the parent company of Chelsea and French side Strasbourg who operate under a multi-club ownership and they have a history of signing youngsters from all over the world to funnel into their system and eventually sell for profit.
A similar deal was conducted in the summer for Julio Enciso, who joined Strasbourg from Brighton for €9.5 million with the view that he could eventually join Chelsea or be sold on if he progresses at the Ligue 1 club.
And Romano revealed that BlueCo have made another similar deal to sign 16-year-old midfielder Muhammad Zongo, who plays for Burkina Faso side Sporting Cascades.
Zongo is expected to move to Strasbourg first before being assessed over his suitability for Chelsea in the future, having featured for Burkina Faso at the under-17 World Cup last month.
Manchester United were among the sides who had also been scouting Zongo after he starred for Burkina Faso during the tournament at the age of 15, having only recently turned 16.
BlueCo transfer sparks multi-club ownership debate between Chelsea and Strasbourg
The signing of Zongo will raise more questions over multi-club ownership, which has regularly come under fire due to the concerns over conflicts of interest and a distortion of competitive balance.
There is also criticism surrounding the transfers between multi-club sides, with Chelsea regularly having traded players with Strasbourg and question marks over the fees that are paid for their deals.
Chelsea are set to sign Strasbourg star Emmanuel Emegha next summer, while the French side bought Ben Chilwell this summer after the left-back struggled to generate interest from other clubs.
Chilwell was one of six players to join Strasbourg from Chelsea on loan or permanently in the summer, while the Blues also signed defender Mamadou Sarr for €14m from the French side before loaning him back to them.
