Premier League sides such as Chelsea and Manchester United could be given an even bigger discount on a star who appears to be heading for a dramatic exit ahead of the January transfer window.

United, Chelsea and Arsenal are among the teams that have been offered the chance to sign Karim Adeyemi after his difficult season which has seen another bustup with Dortmund’s management.

The 23-year-old’s performances have also continued to show inconsistency and his situation has not been helped by yet another controversy after he attempted to storm off down the tunnel following his substitution in the 60th minute against Gladbach on Friday.

The German international was stopped in his tracks by Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl who forced Adeyemi to return to the bench instead of heading to the locker room.

“I told him: He’s not going to the locker room, he’s sitting there,“ Kehl explained to Sky Germany after the game. ”The substitution was totally justified. Karim didn’t play well. He will be punished for it. I don’t want to see that reaction and neither does the coach or anyone else. It’s not right, and Karim knows that too.

“We’ve discussed this issue intensively with the team in recent weeks,” Kehl continued. “If a player is unhappy, he can express it in the locker room or in the next day’s training session.“

Adeyemi playing himself out of big money transfer with unprofessional displays

Adeyemi is highly-rated and has long-been tracked by some of Europe’s top sides who would previously have jumped at a chance to sign the rapid forward on a cut-price deal.

Dortmund have been open to extending Adeyemi’s contract, which is due to expire in 2027, but the player has insisted on a release clause and his attitude concerns have led to doubts over whether he should be rewarded with a new deal.

Adeyemi was also embroiled in controversy earlier in the season after being fined €450,000 for being in possession of illegal weapons, for which he apologised.

The tension with Dortmund over his future has led to Adeyemi being offered to virtually every major side on the continent, with his wife also holding out for a move to a big city.

Dortmund had been hoping to command at least €60m for Adeyemi’s sale but the German’s conduct is only lowering their leverage and an opportunity could arise for a Premier League team to gamble on the youngster.

However, it appears that concerns over Adeyemi’s performances and attitude could prove to be a stumbling block in his future and it may require the player to improve his professionalism – and quickly – if he is to avoid his career ambitions from being scuppered.
