Chelsea-bound Emmanuel Emegha will not play again for Strasbourg this year, according to French media.

The Netherlands international has generated more negative headlines than he is likely comfortable with this season, initially upsetting Strasbourg supporters with his decision to join sister club Chelsea in 2026.

This deal was announced mere weeks after Emegha was named club captain, which served as further proof to those critical of BlueCo's ownership that Racing had lost all independence since the takeover in 2023.

Emegha then missed several weeks of action due to injury, and even when he wasn't playing, he managed to inadvertently stir up controversy. He suggested that Strasbourg failed to beat Monaco and PSG (the latter an impressive 3-3 draw) because he wasn't available.

Shortly thereafter, while away on international duty, he confessed to Dutch media that he did not know where Strasbourg was prior to his move, admitting that he initially thought the city was in Germany. Given the contested history of Strasbourg, this didn't go down well.

Emegha to miss the rest of the year

The 22-year-old's geographical ignorance was the straw that broke the camel's back and compelled Strasbourg to suspend Emegha for Saturday's clash with Toulouse, which ended up being a disappointing 1-0 loss.

"Emma made some clumsy comments to the press that hurt a lot of people, and he had to be punished for that," head coach Liam Rosenior explained. "He also needs to realise that every action has consequences.”

The suspension was more a slap on the wrist than a serious disciplinary action, and Emegha was fully understanding of the fact that Strasbourg had to give him some sort of punishment, even if just a symbolic one.

However, L'Equipe now reports that, even though Emegha's suspension has expired, he is unlikely to play again for Strasbourg this calendar year. That is because he has picked up another injury that will sideline him for around three weeks.

There are only four more matches on Strasbourg's schedule before a two-week winter break from 21 December until 3 January, and Emegha is not expected to return before the turn of the year.
