Chelsea youngster Chizaram Ezenwata has officially signed his first professional contract at the club.

The England U18 international penned scholarship terms with the Blues back in July, ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, and he has now signed a professional deal at Stamford Bridge following his 17th birthday.

Ezenwata joined Chelsea from Charlton Athletic two years ago and he has established himself as one of the club’s most prodigious talents since his arrival at the reigning Club World Cup champions.

The 17-year-old has scored eight goals in eight league matches for Chelsea’s U18 side so far this season, while he also found the back of the net in a 2-1 victory over Brentford in the FA Youth Cup in mid-December.

The teenager made his debut in the UEFA Youth League against Atalanta earlier this month and he scored three times in five games at the recent U17 World Cup as England reached the last-16 stage before succumbing to defeat versus Austria.

Chizaram Ezenwata signs first professional contract

Ezenwata is the latest Chelsea academy starlet to sign a professional contract at the club following the likes of Genesis Antwi, Reggie Walsh and Isago Silva earlier this season.

He is yet to feature for the Blues’ U21 side in the Premier League 2 so far this campaign, but he could be rewarded with a promotion if he continues his fine goalscoring form at U18 level.

Ezenwata will, however, face significant competition for a place in Enzo Maresca’s senior team due to the presence of Shumaira Mheuka, Joao Pedro, Liam Delap and Marc Guiu. Furthermore, Chelsea have already pre-agreed deals for both Emmanuel Emegha and Dastan Satpaev to join the club next summer.

As a result, it may be a while before he makes his first-team debut for the five-time Premier League winners.
