TRANSFER RUMOURS: Chelsea make €100m decision as Morgan Rogers agreement confirmed
The transfer rumour mill is in full swing ahead of the January window, with clubs across the world beginning to ramp up negotiations.
Below, FootballTransfers runs through the biggest rumours from today, including the latest on Adam Wharton and Morgan Rogers.
Chelsea chase Adam Wharton
Chelsea are reportedly set to intensify their pursuit of Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton in 2026 amid Romeo Lavia’s injury troubles.
Lavia, 21, moved to Stamford Bridge from Southampton for a fee of €62.1 million in 2023, but he has endured a torrid spell on the sidelines since his arrival in west London and the Blues are now ready to battle for Wharton’s signature.
That is according to transfer reporter Graeme Bailey who has informed The Chelsea Chronicle that Chelsea are eager to sign a new central midfielder in 2026.
Morgan Rogers contract
Morgan Rogers has agreed a new contract with Aston Villa, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.
The England star had been tipped to leave Villa Park in 2026, amid significant interest from Chelsea, but a full agreement on terms has been reached between Rogers and Unai Emery’s side.
His new deal will run until 2031 and will reportedly see him rewarded with a substantial pay rise.
Andy Robertson to Celtic?
Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson is reportedly open to reaching a pre-contract agreement with Celtic ahead of a possible Bosman transfer next summer.
The Scotland international is into the final year of his current deal at Liverpool and TEAMtalk have reported that Robertson is willing to rejoin Celtic in 2026 following a spell at the club as a teenager.
The 31-year-old is a boyhood Celtic fan and it’s claimed that a free transfer move back to the Bhoys could be on the cards next summer, with Robertson open to agreeing a deal when the January transfer opens in the New Year.
Mike Maignan wants Chelsea
AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan is 'firmly committed' to 'renewing his relationship' with Chelsea, according to Italian media.
The France international was the subject of strong interest from the Blues in June ahead of the Club World Cup, but they opted against matching Milan’s €30m asking price.
Maignan is out of contract in 2026 and seemingly has no intention of extending his stay at AC Milan, so the Stamford Bridge club felt that he could be had for a reasonable price.
However, Maignan clearly still feels that a move to Chelsea is possible in 2026. At least that is according to Italian journalist Marco Pasotto, who states that the Milan captain has his heart set on heading to Stamford Bridge.
Man City eye Vinicius Jr
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has instructed his side to sign Real Madrid ace Vinicius Junior, according to a report.
Vini Jr has been the subject to persistent transfer rumours in recent weeks as his contract at the Bernabeu winds down, with Los Blancos increasingly reluctant to offer the Brazil international star a new deal.
Manchester City are now ready to take advantage of this situation, with Guardiola instructing his side’s board to move for Vini, according to Defensa Central.
Liverpool submit Antoine Semenyo bid
Liverpool have reportedly presented a €74 million offer to Bournemouth for star forward Antoine Semenyo ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are all closely monitoring Semenyo’s situation at Bournemouth, as per multiple reports, although Liverpool are determined to win the race for his signature in 2026.
Semenyo has been identified as the Reds’ preferred replacement for Mohamed Salah, who continues to be linked with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia, and they have now lodged an official bid to Bournemouth, according to renowned X account IndyKaila.
Nico Paz to Chelsea?
Chelsea are targeting a move for Nico Paz, the Como playmaker who has been earmarked as the next Galactico at Real Madrid.
The 21-year-old Argentine has emerged as one of the most exciting talents in the game during his stint in Serie A, which has seen him record 10 goals and 12 assists since the beginning of last season.
Paz’s explosion has seen many top clubs target him, with Chelsea adding him to their transfer shortlist after missing out on Xavi Simons in the summer, according to TBR Football.
