Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe is not yet among the top five French players of all time, according to former Arsenal star Bacary Sagna.

The 26-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best players in the world today, and he is certainly playing like it this season. In 16 games for Real Madrid, Mbappe has netted a ridiculous 18 goals so far this term.

On the international stage, Mbappe has been decisive, too. He scored twice and provided one assist for France against Ukraine to seal qualification for the 2026 World Cup last week.

It took his goal tally for Les Bleus to 55, which means that he is now just two strikes shy of equalling Olivier Giroud's all-time record. Mbappe was part of the France team that won the 2018 World Cup and then scored a hat-trick in the final of the 2022 edition, which was lost on penalties.

With the exception of the Champions League, the Euros and the Ballon d'Or, Mbappe has won pretty much everything there is to win in football, and he still has several years at the top level ahead of him.

Sagna: Mbappe not among the best French players of all time

Despite his stunning exploits, Mbappe is not yet among the all-time greats of French football, according to former Arsenal and Man City star Bacary Sagna. In fact, the former full-back admits that he struggles to even put the 26-year-old in the top five of France's greatest sons.

Speaking to GFFN, Sagna surprisingly said: “Kylian Mbappe is without a doubt in the top 10 best French players ever. It’s hard to put him in the top five and the same bracket as Zinedine Zidane and Thierry Henry because those retired legendary players didn’t have social media.

"The advantage Mbappe has is that he’s gained a lot more exposure and is recognised as a modern-day world-class player. We’ve been able to see his complete journey so far and how he has developed; he’s been in the spotlight.

“There have been so many great French players like Michel Platini, Patrick Vieira and Claude Makelele, just to name a few, but Mbappe is definitely in the top 10 at the moment and, of course, has the ability to be even better."
