Wonderkid breaks silence on Man Utd talks amid transfer confusion
AIK wonderkid Kevin Filling has broken his silence amid the ongoing confusion surrounding a potential transfer to Manchester United.
The Swedish youngster has been making waves in the Allsvenskan. Filling has started to play regularly for AIK despite being just 16 years of age, and the young striker has already scored two goals.
Unsurprisingly, transfer speculation hasn't been long in coming, and market insider Florian Plettenberg claimed last week that Man Utd had initiated talks over a €3 million deal.
Plettenberg mentioned that Bundesliga clubs also hold an interest in the Sweden U18 international, but because the journalist emphasised Man Utd's attraction and stated that the youngster could be on the move as early as January, his reporting has sparked some confusion.
That is because Filling can't move to the UK until he turns 18 next November. Plettenberg likely meant that he could move in January in a general sense, for example, to the Bundesliga rather than to Man Utd, but his unfortunate wording has seen his reporting widely dismissed.
Filling responds to transfer speculation
In the English media, it has been suggested that Man Utd are being used as a 'negotiating tactic' by Filling's representatives in a bid to get a better deal at AIK. In Sweden, meanwhile, it has been confirmed that the Red Devils are interested, but it is said that no talks are taking place.
Whatever the case, Filling has now been asked about the matter, and he has played coy. The youngster insists that he 'doesn't know much' and that his sole focus is on doing well for AIK.
“It’s nothing special," he said. "I don’t know much. I’m focused on AIK, and that’s where all my focus lies. So, I’ll just continue here.” When pressed on his future, he added: “No. I don’t know anything, so no, I’m not thinking about it that much.”
Filling states that his ambition for 2026 is to establish himself as a starter. “To take a starting place in the team and do as well as I can in every match and every chance I get. I want to continue and deliver more points."
AIK have nothing left to play for in 2025 as they are four points off a European spot with just one game to go in the Allsvenskan season. Village club Mjallby have made headlines by winning the title and setting a new points record.
