Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has become a top target for Besiktas, according to Turkish media.

The 27-year-old has once again been relegated to Man Utd's No.2 after briefly starting in goal prior to the arrival of Senne Lammens. After a few weeks of acclimatisation, the Belgian has now firmly supplanted his Turkish counterpart.

Lammens has won plaudits for his performances, leaving Bayindir once more on the outside looking in at Man Utd. He still plays for his country, though, and recently impressed in Turkey's 2-2 draw against the all-conquering Spain.

Turkish outlet Fanatik described this performance as that of a 'giant' and now claims that Bayindir has become a priority target for Istanbul outfit Besiktas.

The Super Lig giants are said to be unhappy with their goalkeeper options. Mert Gunok has lost his place, but his replacement Ersin Destanoglu has struggled to impress.

Besiktas want Bayindir

It is asserted that Besiktas will soon begin working on a potential January deal for Bayindir, but it is acknowledged that they will have a fair bit of convincing to do.

The outlet admits that recent reports have suggested that Bayindir has little interest in returning to the Super Lig at this stage in his career and will therefore prove hard to get.

Moreover, there is also a question mark over whether Man Utd would be willing to sanction a January deal. With Andre Onana on loan at Trabzonspor, they don't have many senior options available.

If Bayindir were to depart mid-season, Man Utd would only have Lammens and 39-year-old Tom Heaton remaining, likely requiring that a replacement be signed.

Although Bayindir is surely keen to play ahead of the World Cup playoffs in March, Man Utd are under no pressure to offload the goalkeeper. His deal runs until 2027, and there is a club option for a further season, which means that the Red Devils don't have to cash in on him in 2026.
