Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed which Manchester United summer signing has impressed him most this season, while also giving his encouragement to Ruben Amorim after an uptick in form.

United have gone five games unbeaten including a run of three straight wins for the first time under Amorim, having previously had a disastrous start to the campaign with just two victories in their first seven matches in all competitions.

The Red Devils spent more than €225 million on players in the summer but Ferguson singled out the signing of goalkeeper Senne Lammens as a reason for United to be positive going forward under Amorim.

“There are signs, the manager has had some good signs,' Ferguson told Raceday RTV. “Particularly the goalkeeper has been outstanding, he’s only played three or four games and he’s looking really good.

“Of course, [Bryan] Mbeumo and [Matheus] Cunha, the new players from Wolves and Brentford, they’ve added to it. I hope the manager gets a bit of success because at United you need to have success - the signs are getting better.

“I think back-to-back wins is something teams like United should always expect. But having gone through a cycle where the improvement has to come by waiting and being patient, they’ll enjoy it now.”

Lammens gives Amorim instant success to build momentum for United

United’s unbeaten run of form coincided with the introduction of Lammens to the line-up after the 23-year-old joined the club in August for €21m.

Lammens kept a clean sheet on his debut against Sunderland in a 2-0 win, marking United’s first shutout of the campaign, although they have yet to keep one in the four games since, conceding seven goals in the process.

United had struggled to find consistency in goal after a disappointing campaign from Andre Onana last season, which saw him loaned out to Trabzonspor late in the summer, while backup Altay Bayindir failed to convince Amorim of his credentials in his limited run in the team.

Having played the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal in their first 11 Premier League matches, United will be encouraged by a favourable run of games over the coming weeks in the hopes that they can continue to build momentum under Amorim.
