Chelsea in 'direct contact' to sign €100m forward
Chelsea are reportedly in “direct contact” with Real Madrid over a possible deal for Brazil winger Rodrygo.
The 24-year-old was heavily tipped to complete a Premier League transfer this summer, amid interest from Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, however nobody was willing to match Real Madrid’s €100 million valuation.
Despite this, Rodrygo continues to be linked with a Santiago Bernabeu departure amid his lack of significant game time since the appointment of Xabi Alonso as Los Blancos’ new head coach.
The Brazil superstar only racked up 93 minutes of action from a possible 540 at this summer’s Club World Cup, while he has started just three matches across La Liga and the Champions League so far this season.
Summer signing Franco Mastantuono has frequently been favoured ahead of Rodrygo during the early weeks of the 2025-26 campaign and rumours of an exit next year are beginning to build traction once again.
Rodrygo to join Chelsea?
Tottenham are understood to be keeping close tabs on Rodrygo’s situation in the Spanish capital, while Chelsea are firmly in the race to acquire his signature in 2026.
This has now been confirmed by transfer reporter IndyKaila, who posted on X: “Chelsea in direct contract with Real Madrid. The subject is Rodrygo.
“Chelsea [are] willing to do [a] deal for January or summer. Confirmed!”
Enzo Maresca’s side bolstered their attacking options with the additions of Jamie Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho, Estevao Willian, Joao Pedro and Liam Delap this summer, however it appears as though they remain eager to sign Rodrygo next year.
The Brazil star is widely considered to be one of the best wingers in world football, but he is without a goal in his last 28 appearances for Real Madrid and rumours have suggested that a sale could be permitted for a reduced fee in 2026.
