Sign him, Chelsea! Mike Maignan 'firmly committed' to joining Blues
AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan is 'firmly committed' to 'renewing his relationship' with Chelsea, according to Italian media.
The France international was the subject of strong interest from the Blues in June ahead of the Club World Cup. Chelsea tried to bring the goalkeeper in for the tournament because they sensed a market opportunity.
Maignan is out of contract in 2026 and seemingly has no intention of extending his stay at AC Milan, so the Stamford Bridge club felt that he could be had for a reasonable price.
However, the Serie A giants refused to play ball. Milan slapped a valuation of around €30 million on the shot-stopper, which Chelsea refused to pay. After having two bids rejected, the Premier League outfit walked away from the discussions.
The Blues resisted the temptation of returning for him later in the summer, despite the fact that they had managed to agree terms with Maignan. Links have continued to abound, but Chelsea are understood to be content with their current options.
Maignan still keen on Chelsea switch
Robert Sanchez believes he is the undisputed No.1 in West London, recently claiming that he has received no indication from the club that they are in any way unhappy with his performances. He will compete with Strasbourg loanee Mike Penders next season.
However, Maignan clearly still feels that a move to Chelsea is possible in 2026. At least that is according to Italian journalist Marco Pasotto, who states that the Milan captain has his heart set on heading to Stamford Bridge.
After revealing that contract talks with Milan have come to a complete standstill, the journalist said: “And now Maignan appears to be quite firmly committed to renewing his relationship with Chelsea."
However, Pasotto also acknowledged that it is not a given that Chelsea will return for Maignan. The goalkeeper is therefore also "keeping an eye on" interest from Bayern Munich and Juventus.
