Chelsea have made a cheeky €10 million offer for Cruzeiro wonderkid Felipe Morais, according to Brazilian media.

The attacking midfielder is currently in Qatar for the U17 World Cup with Brazil. Morais scored twice in the group stage, which quickly gave rise to links with European clubs, chiefly Chelsea.

Domestically, the 17-year-old primarily suits up for Cruzeiro's U20s, and he is regarded as one of the biggest talents in the Belo Horizonte outfit's youth setup.

Naturally, there is plenty of excitement about him in his native Brazil. Cruzeiro's head of scouting, Joaquim Pinto, has insisted that Serie A clubs need to trust young players like Morais because Brazil is blessed with an endless fount of 'god-given' talent.

"Cruzeiro has historically been known for having a strong youth system, and even though some clubs have recently invested heavily in foreign players, Brazilian clubs must continue to take advantage of the talent that God has provided in this wonderful country," he said. "Cruzeiro cannot be an exception."

Chelsea make Morais offer

PH Cruzeirense has now provided an update on Morais' situation and insists that Chelsea have already acted on their interest by making a rather audacious bid for the teenager.

It is claimed that the Blues have made an offer in the region of €10 million for the 17-year-old, which seems fair for a youngster who has yet to make his senior debut. However, this sum pales in comparison to the €100m release clause Cruzeiro have inserted in his contract.

Cruzeiro don't expect anyone to actually trigger his clause, but Chelsea's opening bid has fallen way short of the club's expectations. In addition to the West London club, Barcelona have also registered their interest in Morais.

However, as things stand, Cruzeiro don't intend to sell their prodigy. They believe that he can significantly boost his value by staying put and developing in a familiar environment. In any case, he wouldn't be able to link up with Chelsea until he turns 18 next August.

If Morais continues on his upward trajectory, his final price could be closer to his €100m release clause than to Chelsea's paltry €10m bid.
