Chelsea in SHOCK €30m bid for outstanding Premier League star, ‘well-connected’ sources claim
Chelsea’s January transfer business could take a serious twist with the news that they are chasing one of the best-performing players in the Premier League this season.
Crystal Palace right-back Daniel Munoz has won widespread praise for his performances at Selhurst Park this term, offering Oliver Glasner’s side a thrilling attacking outlet down the right.
The Colombia international has been widely recognised as the most exciting player in his position in England’s top-flight, and Chelsea have “serious” interest in signing him in January, according to CaughtOffside.
Enzo Maresca’s West London outfit, though, face competition from Barcelona, although the Spanish side do not seem as well placed to land a bid currently. Less concrete interest from PSG and Manchester City is also noted.
It has been claimed that Munoz, 28, might be available for just €30 million in a deal that would represent a bargain raid for the Blues.
“Both Chelsea and Barca have made their interest in Munoz known through intermediaries,” the report states, citing ‘well-connected sources close to the agents industry’.
The Blues are said to be “tempted” to launch a bid in January but Barcelona’s financial position means they will need to wait until the summer before making an offer for the player, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €32m.
Daniel Munoz: A luxury signing for Chelsea?
While Munoz’s performances have certainly been eye-catching, Chelsea’s interest nevertheless comes as a surprise.
Maresca’s outfit look well stocked in the right-back position, with Reece James getting back to his best after injury issues and Malo Gusto filling in ably when called upon.
CaughtOffside points out: “Chelsea are keen to have good squad depth this season, with Enzo Maresca often rotating to keep his players fresh in four competitions.
“James also doesn’t have the best fitness record, so that’s something for the club to consider, while Gusto was a target for Bayern Munich during the summer, so perhaps there’s some forward planning going on there as well.”
Crystal Palace boss Glasner is likely to be reticent to allow Munoz, who is under contract until 2028, to leave.
“Danny [Munoz] embodies the passion and spirit of the team. He’s so professional and always playing at a very high level,” Glasner said in April.
“It’s great to have him. Since he arrived, he’s had such a good and positive impact on the Crystal Palace performance.
“Having these kinds of players in the squad is what you wish as a manager. He’s very reliable and always available.”
