The Brazil international is back in his homeland after a failed spell in Europe, but has rediscovered his scoring touch, netting 15 times in 20 matches for Palmeiras.

Now the 20-year-old has indicated that he is ready to move back to the spotlight of European football after admitting he was “fragile” when he returned to his homeland from Barcelona.

Chelsea and Manchester United have both been linked with the youngster, but the Stamford Bridge side are said to have a “more concrete” interest in the player.

What did Vitor Roque say?

Speaking to AS, Vitor Roque said: “I left for Europe very early. I learned a lot from that experience. Similarly, returning to Brazilian football isn’t a step backwards, it’s quite the opposite.

“Sometimes you have to take a step back to go forwards. Luiz Henrique is proof of that. He returned and won titles at Botafogo. I hope to follow the same path: to return and win titles.”

Asked directly about the prospect of returning to European football, he said: “It's a dream to return to Europe, to adapt. God willing, I'll continue doing my job at Palmeiras, because that's my goal today, and in the future I'll return to Europe.

“Right now, I’m very happy at Palmeiras, where I’m helping the team. I know I play an important role. But naturally I think about it.”

Vitor Roque on Barcelona move: It was a dream

Vitor Roque also spoke about his initial move to Barcelona, which he revealed was motivated by a long-standing desire to play for such a top club.

“It wasn't about money, no,” he said. “I have between 10 and 15 years left in my career, if everything goes to plan. It's not the time to think about money.

“But of course, when I left I had a career plan for myself. Every athlete dreams of playing for a team like Barcelona, one of the best clubs in the world. It's a dream.”

Having experienced that thrill once before, it’s clear that Vitor Roque feels better equipped to return to such a stage – with Chelsea and Man Utd apparently ready to invite him.
