Arsenal are battling with Barcelona for 15-year-old French wonderkid Laciné Megnan-Pavé, according to Sport.

The Montpellier teenage attacker is considered the most exciting young talent for his age group in French football.

The centre forward has exploded over the past year, leading to interest from both Arsenal and Barcelona.

Last season he scored 15 goals and delivered 12 assists in 24 games for Montpellier Under-17s.

Arsenal move for Pave

So impressive is Pave that he is now playing with youngsters four years his senior for Montpellier Under-19s.

Sport says that both Arsenal and Barcelona are watching him closely and considering soon making an official move.

Montpellier are aware of the interest and trying to convince Pave to sign a three-year-contract once he turns 16.

Sport says that Pave is considering his options as he needs to decide whether leaving his country at such a young age is the right step for him now.

Arsenal and Barcelona are expected to make a concrete move later in the current season.

Both teams have focused heavily on their youth academies in recent years.

The Gunners already have one of the most exciting 15-year-olds in European football in Max Dowman, who doesn't turn 16 until New Years Eve.

These are good times for Arsenal, who extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Burnley.

The Gunners have not won the Premier League since 2004 but are looking in a good position to end what will be a 22-year wait for an English league title.
