Arsenal in talks with superagent Jorge Mendes over €100m wonderkid
Arsenal are at the front of the queue for Juventus superstar Kenan Yildiz, according to Italian media.
The Turkey international continues to make headlines in the Italian press due to his contract talks with Juventus. Over the summer, an extension seemed to be a foregone conclusion, but the situation is radically different now.
It is no longer guaranteed that Yildiz will extend his terms with the Old Lady, and discussions have hit an impasse. The situation is not dire for the club, given that the 20-year-old has already signed multiple deals since joining in 2022 and remains tied to the Bianconeri until 2029.
Nevertheless, it is a concern for Juventus that they no longer see eye-to-eye with the man they want to build their team around for the next decade. The Serie A giants have massively trimmed down their wage bill in recent years and are reluctant to grant Yildiz his request of €6 million per year.
According to La Repubblica, the situation remains 'unresolved,' and Juventus continue to push for a breakthrough. New rounds of discussions are planned, but whether they will yield any positive results remains to be seen.
Arsenal, Chelsea lurk amid Yildiz uncertainty
The news of the impasse in talks has piqued the interest of Premier League clubs, who have had Yildiz on their radar since he impressed in the Bayern Munich academy.
In the summer, Chelsea launched a €70m bid for the Turkish wonderkid, and recent reports have suggested that the Blues are waiting to see how the new discussions between Juventus and Yildiz pan out before starting a fresh charm offensive.
The same is now said of Arsenal, who are reportedly at the front of the queue for Yildiz. They have already enquired about the 20-year-old with superagent Jorge Mendes.
Formally, Yildiz is represented by his father, but Mendes has been granted a mandate to handle his affairs, and he is notoriously difficult to deal with. The Portuguese's hefty demands are also currently blocking contract talks between Borussia Dortmund and Karim Adeyemi.
Mendes is well aware that a move to the Premier League would be much more lucrative for Yildiz - and himself - than an extension with Juventus, so he is keeping contact with Arsenal and Chelsea active.
