Steven Gerrard arrives for Rangers talks as owners lead manager search

Steven Gerrard jetted into London on Wednesday night to hold talks with Rangers owners Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe over the vacant managerial position at the club.
The 45-year-old has emerged as the clear favourite to replace Russell Martin, having already been sounded out by the 49ers and Cavenagh in the summer.
At the time, Gerrard rejected the chance to return to the club where he has, to date, won his only piece of managerial silverware, paving the way for Martin's ill-fated appointment.
However, the situation appears to have somewhat changed now. While there is still no guarantee that the Liverpool legend will return to the Ibrox dugout, he is willing to listen to what Cavenagh and 49ers president Marathe have to offer.
To that end, Gerrard arrived in London on Wednesday night for talks with the owners, who are personally leading the search for a new head coach, according to Sky Sports.
Gerrard on several 'credible' candidates
The report states that these discussions with Gerrard are likely to take place over several days, with all involved keen to avoid making a rash decision. Since winning the Premiership together in 2021, neither party has been particularly successful.
It is added that Gerrard is just one of several 'credible candidates,' so Rangers are not putting all their eggs in one basket. Sean Dyche has been heavily linked with the job, too, but he is thought not to be interested at this time.
Taking the Rangers job is not expected to be an easy decision for Gerrard, as he is settled with his family in Bahrain, having moved there when he took the reins at Al-Ettifaq, the Saudi club based in Dammam, which is directly connected to his place of residence by the King Fahd Causeway.
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand's podcast recently, Gerrard admitted that he feels that he has 'unfinished business' in management after his unsuccessful spells at Aston Villa and Al-Ettifaq.
“I’m enjoying family time and doing a lot of things that I haven’t been able to do," he said. "Going to Grand Prix, doing exhibition games with ex-team-mates and superstars, that type of stuff has been great.
“But there’s a part of me that still feels that there’s a bit of unfinished business in terms of wanting to go in and face another couple of exciting challenges.
"But I want a certain type of challenge. If in an ideal world they become available, I’ll jump at them. If they don’t, I won’t go back in. I want to be at a team that’s going to compete to win because I think that suits me better."
