Slovenia head coach Matjaz Kek has given his verdict on Benjamin Sesko at Manchester United amid the striker's struggles to live up to his price tag.

The 22-year-old has so far failed to be the solution to the Red Devils' scoring ways that many had hoped he would be. Starved of service and finding it difficult to combine with his fellow attackers, Sesko only notched his first goal of the season last weekend.

Man Utd have the worst shot conversion rate in the Premier League, and they are incapable of getting Sesko into good scoring positions, so that when he does get a rare touch of the ball, he feels compelled to take overambitious punts from outside of the box.

Given that Man Utd spent over €250 million on new attackers this summer, their output in front of goal has been hugely disappointing, and fans are fearing that €85m Sesko will be another expensive flop.

Man Utd are facing a potentially season-defining clash with Sunderland this weekend. Failure to win could make Ruben Amorim's position untenable, which would only serve to increase the turmoil at the club and increase the pressure on Sesko even further.

However, after the game, Sesko will have the opportunity to get away from the drama at Old Trafford for a bit. He remains Slovenia's undisputed star striker and, barring any injury against Sunderland, he will lead the line for his country during the next international break.

Speaking to the media ahead of October's national team camp, Slovenia boss Matjez Kek addressed Sesko's situation and admitted that the 'process' of establishing yourself in a struggling Man Utd side is 'not easy.' However, he believes that the young striker will prevail.

“This is the competitive level that is the most watched, but also the most difficult. The numbers are huge. When the numbers start to turn around with some transfers, when various analyses start, when the ratings increase, it is clear that you are increasingly exposed," Kek began.

“This is comparable to the exposure of players in the NBA or the exposure of the top 10 tennis players. It is clear that behind a club that has marked the history of world football, but is currently not among the top ten, there is a large mass of fans with a critical view.

"The club is under scrutiny, the public analyses everything good and everything bad. There is much more of the latter at the moment. Only the best are capable of surviving this and proving themselves at this level.

“My personal opinion is, and not only because I am Benjamin Sesko’s coach, that sooner or later he will succeed. If you want to be at this level, you have to be the best.

"Not only on the field, but you also have to be able to accept everything that happens around you, along with all the negative criticism. He scored a goal in the last match, but what does that matter if the team loses? It is a process that is not easy.“
