Graham Potter says it would be a "fantastic opportunity" to coach the Sweden national team.

Potter is currently out of work after being sacked by West Ham last month.

The Hammers had picked up only one win in their opening six matches of the season across all competitions, leaving them second from bottom of the Premier League table with the worst defensive record.

Potter had just 25 matches in charge of West Ham and posted only six wins, leading to his sacking.

The Englishman is now being heavily linked to the vacant Sweden national team post.

Sweden sacked their coach John Dahl Tomasson after a disastrous World Cup qualifying campaign which sees them bottom of their group and needing to go through a playoff to make the finals.

Potter is one of the favourites, having managed Ostersund for seven years before moving back to England.

What did Potter say?

"In fact, I'm in Sweden right now, at my home here. I'm between jobs and just left the Premier League. I'm open to anything, really, where I feel I can help. The role of manager of the Swedish national team is fantastic," Potter told Fotbollskanalen.

"I have a special affection for Sweden. I love the country and I love Swedish football. I owe a lot to Swedish football. So, yes, it would be a fantastic opportunity for me.

“I’m in a very good position financially. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t have to consider finances as a reason to take a job or not.”

Potter's stock is low right now having struggled in his last two jobs.

Potter had a disastrous time of things at Chelsea after replacing Thomas Tuchel as manager in the early weeks of the 2022-23 season.

Despite a world record transfer outlay from Chelsea owner Todd Boehly, the Blues found themselves in a dire position at the time of Potter’s sacking in April 2023.

They were down in 11th position in the Premier League, 11 points off Champions League qualification with just 10 games to go.

Boehly had attempted to be patient with Potter but that patience ran out.

Before Chelsea, he had emerged as one of England's most admired coaches at Brighton.
