'Secret' Jobe Bellingham plan revaled as Premier League clubs circle
Borussia Dortmund have hatched a 'secret plan' to get Jobe Bellingham on the right track amid his early struggles at the club.
The English wonderkid is under immense pressure in Germany, having so far failed to live up to his illustrious name. A marquee €30.5 million signing by Borussia Dortmund in the summer, the brother of Real Madrid superstar Jude is struggling.
At the weekend, Bellingham was at fault for Bayern Munich's winner in "Der Klassiker." While trying to clear the ball off the goal line, Bellingham unwittingly smashed it off the sliding Michael Olise, and it deflected into his own net.
It was more ill fortune than incompetence, but it was symbolic of his time at Dortmund so far. The 20-year-old has looked nervous and unsettled in Germany, not helped by his parents and the media scrutiny.
In August, Bellingham's father Mark confronted Dortmund director Sebastian Kehl and coach Niko Kovac after his son was the victim of an early substitution, and this incident still hangs over the youngster like a dark cloud.
Dortmund's plan to fix Bellingham
Naturally, with Bellingham said to be unhappy at Dortmund, transfer speculation hasn't been long in coming. The likes of Man Utd and Crystal Palace are long-time admirers of the midfielder and are again being linked with him.
However, Dortmund have no intention to sell Bellingham while his stock is low. In fact, they signed him specifically to sell him at a profit like his brother, having lost their way a bit on that front in recent years.
According to BILD, director Kehl had a long discussion with Bellingham after the Bayern game in which he told him that everyone at the club still backs him to come good.
Dortmund have plenty of experience when it comes to nurturing young players, and they are well aware that progress isn't always linear. They remain convinced that the 20-year-old can become a difference-maker for them in the future.
Kehl urged Bellingham to learn from his current struggles and to become resilient to setbacks. Dortmund will not look to offload him in January just because he has not yet turned into a world-beater.
