After signing Trent Alexander-Arnold last summer and Jude Bellingham the year before, Real Madrid are once again looking at an England international with a rumoured bid for Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton in the works.

The defensive midfielder is one of the finest in the Premier League, impressing everyone whenever he takes the field. He recently strutted his stuff for England as well and Fichajes.net report this has caught the eye of Los Blancos.

"Wharton's development is surprising; he seems to have played at the elite level for years," commented a member of Real Madrid's coaching staff, per Fichajes.net.

Madrid are impressed with Wharton and see him as an ideal option to reinforce their team in that key defensive midfield position. At just 21, Wharton is the ideal age for Madrid to recruit as he would have many years to throw and improve, retaining resale value even if he fails to make it at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid's financial limits

Real Madrid have set themselves a firm €60 million spending limit in their pursuit of Wharton, which may end up being the problem as that seems low for an Englishman with four years left on his contract. His deal expires in 2029 and so Palace would demand a premium, one that that Premier League clubs would happily pay.

Should the likes of Liverpool or Man Utd get involved in a bidding war for Wharton then Los Blancos could see themselves financially outmuscled, much in the same way they were when Man Utd snatched Leny Yoro from under their noses.

Of course, Real Madrid would be able to offer Wharton the allure of their club's incredible legacy, and the increased technical excellence of La Liga, the chance to match wits with Pedri and Gavi in El Clasico, as well as the opportunity to learn under a coach like Xabi Alonso who was a master of the very position Wharton plays.

Further, Madrid already have two Englishman in the squad in Jude Bellingham and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Being able to train with them every day, play with them every week and socialise with them in Madrid would certainly be an attractive proposition.

Will Madrid make their move, or will Wharton choose the Premier League?
