Manchester United could finally sign Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries in 2026, according to a report.

The Dutchman is almost guaranteed to be in the headlines whenever a transfer window rolls around, and it was no different this summer. Due to a €25 million release clause, Dumfries was available at a relatively affordable price.

However, no club ultimately managed to lure him away from Inter, but Dumfries himself ensured last week that he would be the subject of speculation going forward.

While on international duty with the Netherlands, the 29-year-old openly admitted that he is keen on playing in the Premier League at some point in his career.

“The Premier League is a fantastic competition," he said. "I’m happy at Inter, but I think I could also do very well in England. If there were a professional opportunity, I would certainly be interested."

Man Utd to finally sign Dumfries?

Dumfries was previously a target for Man Utd under Erik ten Hag, while Man City have most recently been linked with a move. However, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke, the ship to join the Cityzens may have sailed due to his age.

“Dumfries is a top player, he’s proven that at the highest level for club and country, but he’s 29 now and that might be a concern for Man City about his age," he said on the Inside Track podcast.

“He’s a top player, a real attacking full-back who is probably better going forward than he is defensively, and he would be a good fit for Man City." O'Rourke then posits that the Red Devils could make a move for him.

There is no denying that Dumfries would be an ideal fit for Ruben Amorim's system, but it remains to be seen if the Portuguese will live to see another transfer window in charge of the Old Trafford club.
