Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has reportedly rejected the chance to replace Erik ten Hag as the new Bayer Leverkusen head coach.

Glasner, 51, has solidified his reputation as one of the best tacticians in world football since arriving at Crystal Palace in February 2024 and he helped the club win their first ever major trophy in May, courtesy of their 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

He is therefore unsurprisingly being monitored by a host of top clubs across Europe, and Leverkusen have registered their interest in his services after sacking the aforementioned Ten Hag on Monday.

However, Glasner has turned down the chance to secure a return to the Bundesliga.

That is according to transfer insider Indykaila, who posted on X: “Exclusive. Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has rejected the chance in [the] last few hours to become the new manager of Bayer Leverkusen.

“Oliver Glasner believes he can become manager with one of the leading clubs in the world in [the] near future.”

It comes after reports speculated that Glasner threatened to quit Crystal Palace if the club sold Marc Guehi to Liverpool on Transfer Deadline Day.

The England international was expected to secure a move to Anfield on the final day of the 2025 summer transfer window, with a deal fully agreed and a medical completed, but Palace pulled the plug on the deal after learning of Glasner’s intention to depart if the transfer went through.

Who will replace Erik ten Hag at Bayer Leverkusen?

Leverkusen are yet to line up a replacement for Ten Hag and they have also reportedly been rejected by Barcelona legend Xavi, who isn’t interested in taking over at the BayArena.

Furthermore, BILD report that Leverkusen will be required to send a whopping €5 million in severance payments to Ten Hag after terminating his contract.

As a result, when including his salary for the two months of his spell at the club, Ten Hag will have earned €6m for just 60 days of work at Bayer Leverkusen.
