Antwi made two first-team appearances for Enzo Maresca’s side last campaign, both of which came in the Europa Conference League, and he has regularly trained with the senior squad at Chelsea’s Cobham base following his emergence as a key player for the club’s U21 side.

The 18-year-old is naturally a right-back, but he is also capable of playing as a right winger and he was deployed in a more advanced role during both of his appearances for Chelsea’s first-team last term.

This year, Antwi has already played five times for Chelsea’s U21 side and he opened his account for the season during the Blues’ 3-2 victory over Bayern Munich in the UEFA Youth League on Wednesday.

His stellar form at academy level has now been rewarded by Chelsea, with the Blues officially announcing that a new contract has been signed by the teenager.

Genesis Antwi signs new Chelsea contract

Antwi signed his first professional contract with Chelsea in September 2024 and he has now extended his deal until at least 2028.

The defender, who joined Chelsea’s academy as an Under-12, was heavily linked with a move to Strasbourg during the recent summer transfer window, however the proposed transfer failed to materialise and he has now signed a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

Following Antwi’s senior debut against Djurgardens last season, Chelsea boss Maresca told reporters: “We try always to give them chances when they deserve. For part of the season he was working with us when we needed him.

“We call him and he works with us. He’s doing well with the U21s, and also he’s doing well when we call him, so we are happy to give him the chance.”
