Chelsea receive transfer CONFIRMATION from Fermin Lopez
Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez has officially decided against joining Chelsea on Transfer Deadline Day.
Enzo Maresca’s side had identified the Spain international as a key target during the final week of the summer transfer window, after missing out on Xavi Simons to Tottenham Hotspur, and they submitted two official offers in an attempt to finalise a deal.
However, Barcelona were eager to retain the 22-year-old, while Fermin displayed no intention of leaving Camp Nou, despite struggling to establish himself as a regular starter since the appointment of Hansi Flick last summer.
The Spaniard has now officially decided against Chelsea, as per BBC Sport and Mundo Deportivo, and he will remain at Barcelona until at least January 2026.
Fermin still has four years remaining on his current contract at Camp Nou and he looks set to enjoy an extended period at his boyhood club, with Chelsea extremely unlikely to lodge a last-minute proposal before the summer transfer window closes at 19:00 BST.
Chelsea’s Deadline Day dealings
Despite failing to reach an agreement with Fermin, Chelsea have strengthened their forward options on Transfer Deadline Day with the loan signing of Brighton & Hove Albion star Facundo Buonanotte, who can play as an attacking midfielder or as a right winger.
The Blues have also decided to recall Marc Guiu from his loan spell at Sunderland to provide emergency cover for Liam Delap after the Englishman suffered a serious hamstring injury during their 2-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday afternoon.
Cancelling Nicolas Jackson’s proposed move to Bayern Munich was also an option for Chelsea, however the Senegal star has now reached a full agreement to join Vincent Kompany's side on an initial loan deal worth €16.5 million.
The deal will then become permanent for €65m next summer due to an obligation-to-buy clause.
