Chelsea superstar to AGREE Saudi Arabia transfer on one condition
Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos would reportedly be willing to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah this summer if they offer him an annual salary of €16 million.
The Brazil international has been heavily linked with a Stamford Bridge departure ever since he returned from a successful loan spell at Strasbourg in June, but the Blues have blocked an exit thus far as they view him as a key player under Enzo Maresca.
Manchester United and West Ham United both lodged failed bids for the 21-year-old during the Premier League summer transfer window, while Al-Qadsiah are now aiming to finalise a deal before the window in Saudi Arabia closes on 23 September.
Reports on Monday speculated that Al-Qadsiah had failed with a €50m offer for Santos, while Brazilian outlet UOL now claim that a fresh bid worth €70m has been lodged.
Chelsea reportedly opened negotiations over a transfer after receiving the aforementioned offer, although Santos has turned down the opportunity to join the Saudi Pro League side in favour of remaining at Stamford Bridge.
Andrey Santos willing to join Al-Qadsiah on one condition
UOL report that Santos was offered €8m-per-year by Al-Qadsiah, which is five times his salary at Chelsea, but he will only agree to join the club if this wage offer is doubled.
He is focused on establishing himself as an integral member of Chelsea’s first-team squad in a bid to solidify his position as a regular in the Brazil national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
It remains to be seen if Al-Qadsiah will offer Santos an annual wage of €16m, but they opted to finalise the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Julian Weigl on Monday, which suggests that a move for the Chelsea star now appears unlikely.
Santos, who has five years remaining on his current contract at Stamford Bridge, is yet to start a Premier League match this season, although he has featured in all three of Chelsea’s English top flight fixtures so far this term.
