OFFICIAL: Arsenal complete Piero Hincapie signing
Arsenal have officially completed the signing of Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.
The Ecuador international arrived in London on Sunday after Leverkusen slumped to a 3-3 draw with Werder Bremen on Saturday, which cost Erik ten Hag his job after just three competitive games in charge.
It has been a hugely damaging summer for the Bundesliga side, and losing Hincapie is another massive blow. The 23-year-old has joined Arsenal in a €52 million deal, although it will originally be a loan.
Contrary to what was initially reported, Arsenal have managed to secure a purchase option for the versatile defender rather than an obligation. Should his stay at the Emirates be made permanent next summer, Hincapie would then sign a five-year contract.
The full-back completed his medical earlier on Monday and has become Arsenal's final signing of what has been an incredibly busy summer. The Ecuadorian will provide impressive cover at both left-back and centre-back.
Arsenal to lose Kiwior
The Gunners' signing of Hincapie means that Jakub Kiwior will be allowed to complete his move to Porto, which is an initial loan with a €25m purchase option.
Porto already had a bid for the Poland international turned down in July, but they persisted with their interest, prompting Arsenal to explore a move for Hincapie.
Kiwior has been patiently waiting for the Gunners to seal a deal with Leverkusen for Hincapie, as his move to Portugal has been entirely dependent on Arsenal securing an adequate replacement.
Given Hincapie's exploits in the Bundesliga, they have not just signed a replacement but quite possibly a significant upgrade on the always-reliable Kiwior.
