Manchester United have agreed a loan deal with Napoli for Rasmus Hojlund, according to The Athletic.

The Denmark international is being pushed out of Old Trafford after losing his starting spot to summer recruit Benjamin Sesko. Despite Hojlund's desire to stay and fight for his place, Ruben Amorim has made it clear to him that it would be best for his career to move on.

Earlier this month, Man Utd had a deal in place with AC Milan for the 22-year-old. However, the transfer collapsed due to the player's unwillingness to join the Rossoneri on a loan with a purchase option.

Hojlund wants to commit to a long-term project and will only entertain a permanent move or, at the very least, a loan deal with an obligation to buy. Napoli have been in talks with the Red Devils over just such a transfer, and an agreement has now been reached.

According to The Athletic, the two clubs have settled on a loan move with a purchase obligation that will be triggered if the Serie A winners qualify for the Champions League.

Napoli agree Hojlund deal

Napoli have agreed to pay Man Utd a loan fee that is being described as 'significant' and they will pay a sizeable €44 million if Hojlund's move indeed becomes permanent.

The report does emphasise, though, that this transfer is not done yet because Hojlund still have to give his assent. It has been suggested that he is keen on linking up with the Naples club, but it remains to be seen if the formula of the deal appeals to him.

Hojlund has also received interest from other clubs, most notably his former side Atalanta and RB Leipzig, who sold Sesko to Man Utd. However, Napoli have been his most emphatic suitors, immediately pushing for the deal once the extent of Romelu Lukaku's injury became clear.

The Belgium international recently suffer a muscle tear that is expected to keep him out at least until November and potentially beyond that, forcing the Serie A giants to act.
