Gianluigi Donnarumma to Man Utd ON as Romano says 'here we go'
Manchester United have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The Italy superstar, who enjoyed a stellar 2024-25 campaign as PSG won the Champions League, has been linked with a surprise summer transfer and Man Utd are among the clubs monitoring his situation.
Donnarumma was Luis Enrique’s first-choice goalkeeper throughout last season, but PSG have now reached a full agreement to sign Lille star Lucas Chevalier for a fee in excess of €40 million, as per football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Frenchman is one of the most highly-rated goalkeepers in world football and his imminent arrival has raised serious questions over Donnarumma’s future at the Parc des Princes.
The 26-year-old’s current contract at PSG is due to expire next summer and The Transfers Podcast understands that Enrique’s side are eager to sell him before the end of the window.
Donnarumma has been unable to agree terms over a contract extension with the Ligue 1 giants and he has been told that he will not be the number one goalkeeper at PSG next season.
Man Utd are one of the frontrunners to land Donnarumma this summer, amid the uncertain future of Andre Onana, while we have been informed that PSG expect Chelsea and Manchester City to challenge for his signature too.
Ruben Amorim’s side are yet to submit a formal offer for the Italy international, however he is firmly on their radar as they eye a possible move for a new goalkeeper before the end of Transfer Deadline Day on 1 September.
Man Utd’s summer transfer business
In addition to their pursuit of Donnarumma, Man Utd are also interested in signing Brighton & Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba as Amorim sets his sights on bringing a new midfielder to Old Trafford following the departure of Christian Eriksen on a Bosman deal.
Man Utd have already signed Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon for a combined price of €153.2m so far this summer, but they are yet to offload a single player for a transfer fee.
Marcus Rashford, Daniel Gore and Ethan Wheatley have been sent out on loan for the duration of the 2025-26 season, Jonny Evans has retired, and Victor Lindelof and the aforementioned Eriksen have left on free transfers.
