Man Utd in Sesko SHOWDOWN: Deal done in hours as RB Leipzig make final demand
Manchester United and RB Leipzig will hold a new round of talks for Benjamin Sesko on what has been dubbed ‘Decisive Thursday’ by the German media.
The Red Devils have pushed ahead of Newcastle to the front of the queue to sign Sesko, having agreed personal terms with the striker.
Now Man Utd must strike an agreement with the Bundesliga club, having failed to meet their expectations with regards their offer for the Slovenia international so far.
The Red Devils have been told that they could wrap the deal up within hours if they accept Leipzig’s demands – but Newcastle are waiting in the wings if there is a late hiccup.
Sky Sports Deutschland’s Philipp Hinze reports on X: “Decisive Thursday? If Manchester United make an offer to RB Leipzig today that realistically exceeds €80m, an agreement could be reached today.
“Leipzig want a package worth more than €80m for Sesko – Newcastle have already met RB’s expectations. If Man United follow up today, a deal will be made. Sesko is waiting for the green light to travel to Manchester. The ball is in the Red Devils’ court. Key phase.”
Similarly, Florian Plettenberg of the same organisation states: “Showdown in Leipzig today! Newcastle, like Manchester United, still have representatives on site in Leipzig, ready to react in case Man United cannot reach an agreement with Leipzig.
“However, the Red Devils are going all in – especially because Benjamin #Sesko has now clearly committed: he wants to join Manchester United. Personal terms are 100% agreed.”
Benjamin Sesko: The state of play
Benjamin Sesko is on the brink of joining Man Utd, but the deal is not yet done.
While a contract has been agreed between the Premier League side and the 22-year-old striker, there is no agreement with RB Leipzig over a transfer fee.
Newcastle are a complicating factor. The Magpies have already offered the Bundesliga side €75m plus €10m in bonuses for the player. This meets RB Leipzig’s asking price.
On the other hand, Man Utd have previously offered €70m plus €10m, coming up short.
The reports in Germany seem to suggest that if the Red Devils really want Sesko, they will have to stump up another €5m in order to get him.
