New Man City signing ALREADY planning to leave
Manchester City face losing one of their new summer signings as it has been revealed he is planning on leaving just days after arriving at the club.
City have spent €175 million on new players during the window, with one of the most notable deals that to bring back James Trafford to the club.
The goalkeeper left the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2023 for Burnley for €17.3m but Pep Guardiola decided to spend nearly twice that figure bringing him back this summer via a buy-back clause.
But the situation in Manchester has changed rapidly.
Trafford was earmarked for the No.1 role ahead of Ederson, yet with Gianluigi Donnarumma being put up for sale by PSG, Man City now appear prepared to sign the Italy international and hand him the first-team gloves.
Trafford won't be happy being No.2
The Manchester Evening News’ Tyrone Marshall says that Trafford will be left fuming by the decision.
Speaking to the Talking City podcast, the Man City correspondent explained: “I also think it’s a strange one for Trafford. … He knows the club, and he made it clear he’s not going to be England’s number one if he’s City’s number two.
“And I mean, Trafford himself would back himself to get ahead of Ederson this year, I think. But then suddenly, Ederson goes, and you sign Donnarumma … Trafford’s going to want out next summer.”
Trafford kept a clean sheet on his City debut in the Premier League opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend – a match in which City cruised to a 4-0 success.
But the 22-year-old knows that he has little hope of competing with Donnarumma if the Italian is signed for big money, leaving him to consider his future.
With an Estimated Transfer Value of €22.7m which is only likely to drop if he is out of the first team and unhappy, City also stand to make a big loss on Trafford if they choose to sell him.
