Alexander Isak to Liverpool: Virgil van Dijk issues MAJOR transfer demand
Virgil van Dijk believes that Liverpool could benefit from signing another attacker before the end of the summer transfer window amid significant interest in Alexander Isak.
Arne Slot’s side suffered a penalty shootout defeat to Crystal Palace in the Community Shield final on Sunday afternoon and Van Dijk dropped a major transfer hint after the game, despite the promising performances of both Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz.
“Well, we just lost Darwin, He went to Saudi and we lost Lucho [Luis Diaz], obviously he went to Bayern,” Van Dijk admitted to talkSPORT.
"I think there's always room for an attacker in order to strengthen us so let's see what the window brings in terms of the balance of the team.”
Despite links with both Rodrygo and Malick Fofana in recent weeks, Isak is the only forward currently on Liverpool’s radar and he has been exiled by Newcastle United after handing in a transfer request in late July.
The Sweden international is determined to complete a move to Anfield before Transfer Deadline Day on 1 September, although The Telegraph claim that Newcastle will not sell Isak this summer.
Despite this, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that a deal could still be on the cards.
What has Arne Slot said?
Although Van Dijk wants Liverpool to sign a new forward, Slot doesn’t believe that his side are in need of additional reinforcements.
“I think we have more than enough options to be good enough to win again,” he told talkSPORT after Van Dijk’s comments.
“This is where I focus on myself. With the players we have we should be able to win, to score. That's actually what we did as well. We scored twice and last season we only scored one against them, away and at home.
“So my last concern at the moment is our offensive quality. It's more. It's not a concern, but if I look at the amount of goals we've conceded in pre-season. That's not our standard.”
