Liverpool transfer reignited for forgotten star
Liverpool’s transfer window has been packed with excitement, and as a deal for Alexander Isak draws closer, the Anfield club have been given an intriguing update from elsewhere in the market.
All eyes on Merseyside are currently on Newcastle United striker Isak, but sporting director Richard Hughes is quietly working away to conduct several other deals.
Liverpool’s spending will top €450m should they land the Sweden star, and while this has been offset by the sale of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich, the Reds are working at clearing out other areas of the squad.
An avenue has opened up for Arne Slot’s side to sell Tyler Morton, with Ligue 1 side Lyon set to revisit a deal. Frustrated in having numerous offers knocked back for Brest’s Pierre Lees-Melou, OL are ready to go back to Liverpool and make a fresh offer for the 22-year-old.
Lyon seemed to back off a deal for Morton earlier in the week, but the French club now appear ready to accelerate to sign the player, who has admitted that he is open to leaving.
“I’m looking for game time, simple as that really,” he told The Redmen TV at the weekend.
“Last season was tough for game time for myself. It was a big learning year. So, I learned a lot last year off players, manager, and stuff, but now I’m ready to play.”
Tyler Morton has disappeared
Morton, who has also been linked with West Ham, came through the Liverpool academy, where he was highly regarded, but he has struggled to find consistent game time under Arne Slot.
A dynamic defensive midfielder, he did not make a single Premier League appearance and was given only a handful of minutes in cup competitions.
Out of contract in 2026, he has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €6.9 million.
Liverpool may well try to strike the type of transfer agreement they did with Bayer Leverkusen for Jarell Quansah, whereby they include a buy-back option and a sell-on clause in the deal.
