The Brazil international has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks, amid his uncertain future with Los Blancos, and Mikel Arteta’s side remain interested in completing a deal, despite their pursuit of Eberechi Eze.

In fact, Arsenal are now eyeing a potential loan transfer for Rodrygo, according to The Times.

The Gunners are still eager to bolster their options on the left-side of attack, with questions over the future of Leandro Trossard, and Rodrygo remains a top target following years of impressive form at Real Madrid.

The 24-year-old has notched 119 goal contributions in 270 first-team appearances for the Spanish giants, but he has fallen down the pecking order following the appointment of Xabi Alonso in June and Los Blancos are open to a sale.

However, it remains to be seen if Real Madrid will sanction a loan departure this summer.

Arsenal want to sign Rodrygo

BBC Sport reporter Sami Mokbel has also confirmed that Arsenal remain interested in bringing Rodrygo to north London, despite their advanced pursuit of the aforementioned Eze - who can also play as a left winger.

“In terms of Rodrygo, the interest is absolutely genuine. I know you signed Gyokeres, but he would be the superstar signing. He would be the cherry on the cake,” Mokbel told the Latte Firm YouTube channel.

“The interest is absolutely there and is authentic, but the sort of stumbling blocks towards that are – it will be the cost again. It will be the sort of wages which I think would be, from what I understand, you’re looking upwards of £250k a week, if not more, so it’s big money.

“I think that the powers that be at Arsenal have crunched those numbers and probably rightly been a bit more hesitant towards going hell for leather for him, but that’s not to say that they’re not interested because they are, they do like him as a player and they have explored the conditions of that deal.”

Rodrygo has three years remaining on his current contract at Real Madrid, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €98.1 million.
