Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has placed himself in the middle of a transfer storm as he continues to push for a move to Liverpool.

Isak broke his silence on the affair on Tuesday, when he took to Instagram to launch a rant against the Premier League side, who he claims are blocking his dream transfer to Anfield. He claims an agreement of sorts was made that would allow him to leave if a suitable offer arrived.

Newcastle hit back immediately with a statement of their own, rejecting the 25-year-old’s claims.

Eddie Howe’s side left the door open for Isak to return to the squad, but it remains to be seen if he is willing to do that.

With less than two weeks remaining in the transfer window, the situation has an apparently long way to go before a resolution is found.

’Everybody in the real world knows…’

Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has been left stunned by the claims that Isak has made.

The TalkSport presenter said: “We’ve got a three-year contract left and we’re having this discussion about a gentleman’s agreement and people are actually believing it.

“People listen to: ‘Oh, broken promises’, you get idiots like Jamie O’Hara going on Sky Sports saying: ‘Broken promises have been made.’ Nonsense!

“Everybody in the real world knows that if an undertaking were given by a football club to a player that they were prepared to engage in a discussion allowing him to be sold, that it would be documented properly in the same way that his contract was documented.

“You’re not sitting there with these supreme athletes that are getting paid enormous amounts of money with big contracts saying things that are not substantial.”

Liverpool have made a first bid worth around €130 million to Newcastle for Isak that was dismissed out of hand. It is believed that the Magpies was around €170m for their star man.
