Marcus Rashford gives up MILLIONS to complete dream Barcelona transfer
Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford is giving up a fortune to join Barcelona, according to a report.
The England international is on his way out of Old Trafford again. After spending the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, Rashford is now set to join Barcelona on an initial loan deal with an option to make it permanent next summer.
An agreement in principle has been reached, with Man Utd greenlighting another temporary exit of the 27-year-old, even though they would have preferred a sale this summer.
The deal is expected to be finalised in the coming days as only the last details of the transaction need to be ironed out. Rashford is belatedly getting his dream move to Barcelona after he was unable to join them in January.
The winger has made no secret of the fact that he is keen on a move to Catalunya, but he wasn't the Blaugrana's top priority. They only turned to him after failing to sign Nico Williams and Luis Diaz.
Rashford gives up millions to join Barcelona
Rashford, for his part, made sure to make every conceivable effort to get his move. The biggest and most tangible such effort is perhaps giving up a hefty chunk of his salary.
According to Ben Jacobs, Rashford has taken a sizeable pay cut to help Barcelona navigate their registration issues, with the England star now set to earn around €10 million gross per season.
This is a significant reduction from his estimated €18m annual wage at Man Utd, and it has allowed Barcelona to cover his entire salary and thus make a loan more palatable to Man Utd.
Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has approved the deal and already spoken to Rashford. The club are now working to ensure that they will actually be able to have the Man Utd outcast available after seeing a move for Williams collapse over registration concerns.
