Manchester United could be forced to dip into the market for a new goalkeeper after Andre Onana suffered a hamstring injury in training.

The Red Devils have been mulling over the future of the Cameroon international for months. Onana has failed to live up to expectations and made several high-profile blunders that have cost Man Utd dearly.

As such, head coach Ruben Amorim is said to have lost faith in the 29-year-old, but this has so far not been enough to convince Man Utd to make a serious move for any potential replacement.

The club are operating on a limited budget and feel that there are many more pressing issues that need to be sorted first, and thus Onana is expected to remain at Old Trafford beyond the summer.

However, there may be a twist in the tale now following the news that Onana is set to be sidelined for the foreseeable future. The Telegraph reports that the shot-stopper could miss the rest of pre-season and even the start of the new campaign due to a hamstring problem.

Man Utd to sign Onana replacement?

The news of this injury has given a fresh impetus to speculation that Man Utd will sign a new goalkeeper this summer. Meanwhile, Sky Sports seems to suggest that Onana's issue isn't as bad as initially feared as he will still travel with Amorim's squad for their pre-season tour of the US.

Whatever the case, Man Utd may feel compelled to act now, and there is no shortage of links. Aston Villa shot-stopper Emiliano Martinez has been associated with a move to Manchester for weeks.

The Telegraph, however, reports that there are no negotiations so far and that there is a significant gulf between the two clubs' valuation of the Argentine.

Meanwhile, GOAL Brasil continues to associate Man Utd with a move for Botafogo No.1 John Victor, who is available for just €6.8 million due to a release clause in his deal. Botafogo are reportedly already lining up Atletico-MG’s Matheus Mendes as a replacement.

Man Utd have also been said to be keen on Royal Antwerp youngster Senne Lammens, but these links have gone relatively quiet in recent weeks. As things stand, Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaten and the highly-rated Radek Vitek will have to deputise for Onana in the coming weeks.
